Malpelo Island National Park or Nature Reserve

Malpelo Island is located in the Pacific Ocean about 235 miles west of the Columbia coast. Except for a small military post the island is uninhabited and consists of a shear barren rock with three peaks rising out of the Pacific Ocean in striking fashion. Cruises and tours to Malpelo Island are available for tourists and Malpelo Island is a very popular scuba diving location famous for its large shark populations.

Los Estoraques National Park is located in northeast Columbia near the Venezuelan border and consists of a beautiful landscape shaped by large brownstone pedestals and columns created by years of erosion. Tours to the park are all day affairs from hotels and accommodations in both La Playa and Ocana, Columbia.

Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park

Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park is located in northeastern Columbia in the Cordillera Oriental Mountain Range and extends from the mountains to the beaches along Columbia's north coast along the Caribbean. Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park is a popular tourist attraction in Columbia due its varied climates and most tourists visiting the park take tours from the beautiful resort city of Santa Marta which lies 25 miles west along the Caribbean.

Galeras Volcano National Park

Galeras Volcano National Park is located in southwestern Columbia in the Narino Department about 20 miles west of the city of Pasto. Galeras Volcano is 14,0289 feet above sea level and is an active volcano having last erupted in January of 2010.

Gorgona Island National Park

Gorgona Island National Park is located in the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles off the south-central Columbia coast in the Gulf of Tortugas. Gorgona Island functioned as a prison until 1985 when it was turned into a national park and today is a popular ecotourism center complete with lodgings for 80 people. Tours to the island are also available and it is popular due to its striking cliff faces, great scuba diving coral reefs and visits by migrating humpback whales and their newborn calves from August to November each year.

Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Park is located in northern Columbia right along the Caribbean about 20 miles east of the resort city of Santa Marta. It is the second most popular national park in Columbia due to its great beauty along the Caribbean which makes it a popular tourist destination in Columbia. It also helps to have the resort city of Santa Marta with many hotels and resorts nearby and tour groups operating from the city offering tours to Tayrona National Park. Shakira loves this place.

Los Nevados National Park is located in central-western Columbia and features eight volcanoes including the 17,388 foot high Nevado del Ruiz. The entire area of the park was shaped by glaciers and volcanic activity which has created a beautiful landscape which attracts the 3rd most tourists of any national park in Columbia.

Sumapaz Paramo National Park

Sumapaz Paramo National Park is located in central Columbia about 50 miles south of the capital city of Bogota. Sumapaz Paramo consists of high country, mountain lakes and the largest paramo ecosystem in the world. Though close to the large population center of Bogota this national park is not that popular due to its high cold climate though tours to the park are available form hotels and tour groups in Bogota.

Sierra Nevada del Cocuy National Park

Sierra Nevada del Cocuy National Park is located in northeastern Columbia near the Venezuelan border and consists of many high mountain peaks over 15,000 feet in elevation that are snow capped. The beautiful mountains in Sierra Nevada del Cocuy National Park can be seen for many miles in all directions and tours to the park are available.

Chingaza National Park

Chingaza National Park is located in central Columbia about 25 miles east of Bogota. Chingaza is full of mountain lakes and beautiful scenery conveniently located not far from tourist accommodations in Bogota.
